The Science & Process of Healing From Grief: Huberman Lab Podcast
We thought we'd share some additional resources about the topic of grief and also ask a hard reflective question:
- Q: Do you miss any of the negatives of the individual, pet or relationship you are grieving?
Unconditional love is seeing both sides +/-. We often only grieve the parts we are infatuated with, therefore placing a condition on loving half the person (+). We all want to be loved for who we are (+/-), for all our parts. When you experience this you have a profound level of appreciation, you don't forget the person, and you love them without carrying the heavy baggage and stressing the body.

Dr. Andrew Huberman is a neuroscientist at Stanford and we thought it was powerful of him to talk about the impact grief has. Enjoy this podcast.
Dr. Huberman discusses grief and the challenges of processing losses of different kinds. He explains the biological mechanisms of grief, including how neural circuits for emotional and factual memory combine with those for love and attachment, to create feelings of absence and yearning. He discusses how grief is distinct from depression, yet why they can feel so similar. He also provides science-based tools to assist with the grieving process, including how to reframe and remap the relationship with those we have lost while still maintaining a strong emotional connection to them. He also explains the importance of having and building strong foundational psychological and biological states so that we can better cope with grief when it happens. Finally, he describes tools to adjust those states, including those for accessing sleep and managing stress and emotional swings. This episode is for those suffering from grief but also for everyone, given that we all experience grief at some point in our lives.

Summary
The greatest form of love is seeing that it's never missing, that it's changing shape and form. To honour it is to see it in all its forms. Grief is holding onto the past form and putting a condition of that shape and form on it. Experience a transcendental timeless/ spaceless/chargeless love that permeates the universe. Its the most powerful form of love, because carrying the grief and pain around isn't the greatest form of love for self or others.
